From humble beginnings a fantastical beauty is born.

The St. Patrick’s Festival Berlin started on beautifully crisp March day in Kreuzberg back in 2011. One hundred and fifty excited revellers joined in the festivities, which included a parade around Görlitzer Park (much to the delight of bemused Kreuzbergers!). Since then, SPFB has grown from strength to strength, with over 3000 attendees at our last last action-packed festival in 2015.

(Click on the timeline below to find out more about each year’s event).

It is easy to see why the festival became so popular with not just the Irish community in Berlin but also local Berliners and expats joining in the fun. St Patrick’s Day is celebrated the world over and always attracts an eclectic mix of people, especially in Berlin!

After a hiatus in 2016 & 2017, the original festival organizers along with some new recruits are bringing the festival back by popular demand for a huge celebration on Saturday, March 17th, 2018. Like in previous years, there will be a parade through the streets of Berlin (fingers crossed we get permission again!), live Irish music and cultural acts across 2 stages, delicious and hearty Irish food and, of course, Irish “refreshments” for all those thirsty revellers. We will also have family-friendly activities including face painting and Céili dancing. Festival goers will also have the opportunity to cheer on the Irish rugby team on the big screen as they take on the ‘Auld Enemy’ (England) to wrap up the season’s 6 Nations Championship.

All this and many more surprises are planned for 2018 so sign up to our newsletter and follow us on social media. Did we also mention the event will be free of charge!

We look forward to seeing you all in 2018!

The SPFB Team

2011 – The SPFB Story Begins

SPFB truly did have quite humble beginnings as the Irish and expat community that frequented the Kleine Reise nightclub and led by founder Dara O’Neill gathered at Spreewaldplatz in Kreuzberg to celebrate the first ever festival. The typical Irish weather conditions didn’t put off around 150 revellers, a very large snake and Paud’s St. Patrick! […]

2012 – Round Two

In 2012 we were blessed with a blistering sunny day that really drew the crowds. Ambassador Dan Mulhall officially launched the festival with a few words as the parade gathered at Spreewaldplatz in Kreuzberg. Once everyone had assembled, we set off into Görlitzer Park accompanied by the wonderful sound of bagpipes in unison. We were […]

2013 – Bigger Crowds Joining In

We really went all out in 2013 with a full programme that not only included the annual parade and concert, but we also had a whiskey tasting evening at Geist im Glas and we teamed up with our friends at the Shebeen Flick Irish film festival. Over 5,000 people braved the snowy weather to attend […]

2014 – Green in ’14

In 2014 we freshened things up a bit with a new parade route and venue. For the first time we assembled outside of our beloved Kreuzberg as we met up at S-Bahnhof Plänterwald in Treptow for the parade. With St. Patrick’s Day’s falling on a Monday that year so we had our finger’s crossed for […]

2015 – The Party Continues……

In 2015 our unique Irish holiday was celebrated on a beautiful spring Sunday with a parade, live music and of course a lot of delicious food and hell of a lot of drinks. The great thing about celebrating Irishness in such a multicultural city such as Berlin is that everyone can get a taste of […]
